We left Lausanne early this morning and arrived in Geneva at 8am. After dropping of the luggage at our hotel, we took a tram out to CERN. When we first started planning this trip, we decided early on to try and visit the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva. That happened today.

Lausanne
Today was a long day of travel. We drove from Liechtenstein to Zug, Switzerland and dropped of our rental car. From Zug, we caught a couple trains to Lausanne and ventured throughout the city until dusk.
Liechtenstein
After completing the Romantic Road tour in southern Germany, Katie drove through Austria into Liechtenstein. We stayed in a small town called Triesenberg and the view from our hotel was great.
Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein Castle
Today was one of the highlights of our trip. We visited Hohenschwangau Castle and Neuschwanstein Castle in southern Germany. After the long drive from Donauworth, we arrived in Fussen at about noon. After picking up our tour tickets, we had some time to kill so we started with a walk to Hohenschwangau Castle.
Nordlingen and Donauworth
Today we woke up early and drove south to a small town called Nordlingen. This was our fourth stop along the Romantic Road tour in southern Germany. We started by a visit to the Lutheran chapel, St. Georgskirche, and a climb to the top of the bell tower. The views from the top were great.
Wurzburg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and Dinkelsbuhl
Yesterday I landed in Frankfurt after 14 hrs of security checks, flying, and layovers. After meeting up with Katie in Karlsruhe, we headed to Wurzburg. This small town rests on the Main River and has been continuously inhabited since the 8th century. Overlooking Wurzburg is the Marienberg Fortress which we hiked to on Friday night.

Europe 2012 Recap
Our Europe trip has come to an end and we are all exhausted. The last few weeks have gone by fast and we are already planning ahead to our next destinations. Meanwhile, enjoy the pictures.
Pompeii and Sorrento
From Rome, we traveled to Pompeii. This ancient city was partially buried by by ash during the volcanic eruption of Mt Vesuvias in 79 AD. Now, the remains are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts 2.6 million visitors every year.
Rome Part 3: Papal audience and Pantheon
Today is our last day in Rome. We started by heading to the Vatican again, however this time we picked up tickets and proceeded to enter the auditorium where Pope Benedict XVI would be giving a weekly prayer. We brought along some crucifixes to be blessed.
Rome Part 2: Vatican and Colosseum
We started the day with a quick bus-ride over to the Vatican to get in line early for the St. Peter’s Basilica dome climb. After a short wait in line, we proceeded to climb 448 ft to the top of the dome. Along the way, we got some very impressive views of the inside of the Basilica. Of course, the view from the top was excellent.
