Wurzburg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and Dinkelsbuhl

Yesterday I landed in Frankfurt after 14 hrs of security checks, flying, and layovers.  After meeting up with Katie in Karlsruhe, we headed to Wurzburg.  This small town rests on the Main River and has been continuously inhabited since the 8th century.  Overlooking Wurzburg is the Marienberg Fortress which we hiked to on Friday night.

After picking up our rental car Saturday morning, Katie and I started our voyage down the Romantic Road.  This medieval trade route has been a popular tourist destination lately, famous for its picturesque Bavarian towns and Katie and I enjoyed the first two stops along the route: Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Dinkelsbuhl.

Part of the excitement has been getting familiar with German driving and roadways.  Justin drove the first stretch of the autobahn and kept a cool, consistent, 80-90 mph.  Katie drove the second leg and reached nearly 110 mph with no encouragement whatsoever.  Rest assured, she will not be driving the rest of the trip…

Overall a busy first start to our trip; tomorrow we are continuing onward to Nordlingen and Donauworth.
