We left Lausanne early this morning and arrived in Geneva at 8am. After dropping of the luggage at our hotel, we took a tram out to CERN. When we first started planning this trip, we decided early on to try and visit the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva. That happened today.
Although its nearly impossible to visit the tunnels and caverns without a group reservation, they give individual tours. We were escorted around CERN and the ATLAS control room by a nice local physicist who explained particle accelerators to us. I asked what would happen if I put my hand in the atom smasher, he said “it would be messy.”
After our CERN visit we explored Geneva. Since we are staying here until Sunday, we had big plans for bike tours and vineyards, unfortunately the weather has been dismal. We’ll see how it goes and keep you posted.
