Geneva Part 2
Katie wrote this post
Day 2: Geneva is known for its watch-making and is home to multiple world-known watch brands including Rolex. There is even a walking tour for watch enthusiasts. It starts with what is known as the “flower clock.” This clock features the world’s longest second hand at 2.5 meters long and over 6,500 flowers (these are changed throughout the year, so the clock is always flowing even in the winter). Unfortunately, the first time that we stopped by, the clock was in flower transition and a complete mess!
Geneva Part 1 – CERN
We left Lausanne early this morning and arrived in Geneva at 8am. After dropping of the luggage at our hotel, we took a tram out to CERN. When we first started planning this trip, we decided early on to try and visit the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva. That happened today.
Lausanne
Today was a long day of travel. We drove from Liechtenstein to Zug, Switzerland and dropped of our rental car. From Zug, we caught a couple trains to Lausanne and ventured throughout the city until dusk.
Liechtenstein
After completing the Romantic Road tour in southern Germany, Katie drove through Austria into Liechtenstein. We stayed in a small town called Triesenberg and the view from our hotel was great.
Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein Castle
Today was one of the highlights of our trip. We visited Hohenschwangau Castle and Neuschwanstein Castle in southern Germany. After the long drive from Donauworth, we arrived in Fussen at about noon. After picking up our tour tickets, we had some time to kill so we started with a walk to Hohenschwangau Castle.
Nordlingen and Donauworth
Today we woke up early and drove south to a small town called Nordlingen. This was our fourth stop along the Romantic Road tour in southern Germany. We started by a visit to the Lutheran chapel, St. Georgskirche, and a climb to the top of the bell tower. The views from the top were great.
Wurzburg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and Dinkelsbuhl
Yesterday I landed in Frankfurt after 14 hrs of security checks, flying, and layovers. After meeting up with Katie in Karlsruhe, we headed to Wurzburg. This small town rests on the Main River and has been continuously inhabited since the 8th century. Overlooking Wurzburg is the Marienberg Fortress which we hiked to on Friday night.

New Mexico
In April, Katie and I flew to New Mexico for a quick weekend excursion. We met up with a few friends from Justin’s high school, Ben and Mitch. Our first order of business was to visit Carlsbad Caverns. This network of caves includes the third largest cavern chamber in North America. It spans 4,000 feet and is 250 feet high.
Spring 2013
This spring, Katie and I have been busy. First, we picked up snowboarding as a new hobby. We started the season with green runs and after lessons and several hard falls we have progressed to blue and a few black runs.
