Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein Castle

Today was one of the highlights of our trip.  We visited Hohenschwangau Castle and Neuschwanstein Castle in southern Germany.  After the long drive from Donauworth, we arrived in Fussen at about noon.  After picking up our tour tickets, we had some time to kill so we started with a walk to Hohenschwangau Castle.

Next, we walked the 1.5 miles up to Neuschwanstein Castle.  This castle was built in the late 1800’s by Ludwig II and was emulated and popularized by Disneyland.  We took a quick tour of the castle and grounds and then hiked around to a nearby vantage point to get a better view.
