Our first evening in Rome was fun. We made our way to the hotel from the train station and then set out for dinner and a walk across the city.
We found the famous Trevi Fountain. This ancient fountain was originally built over a natural spring in 19BC. In the 1600’s it was redesigned and renovated to include the statues. 3,000 Euros are thrown into the fountain every day by tourists.
After the Fountain, we walked north to the Spanish Steps. These were built in the 1700’s to link two piazzas. It is the widest staircase in Europe.
That’s all for tonight. Tomorrow we are visiting the Colloseum and the Roman Forum. Tuesday is our tour of the Vatican.
